CRACK is a derivative of cocaine. When
cocaine is produced it is as close to 100% pure as you can get.
As the drug is sold from dealer to dealer to dealer, everyone
"cuts" the cocaine powder and mixes it with all sorts of
materials such as talcum powder, bicarbonate or other drugs - so
as to maximise the profits to the dealer
Eventually when the cocaine lands up on the
street it is rarely more than 20% pure, but still selling at
premium prices
This powder is today taken and boiled in water
together with a binding agent such as bicarb. This results
in a "rock" or "crack" that is about 90% pure and the process is
called "freebasing" This "rock" is then smoked in a pipe
for a more intense and immediate high

APPEARANCE |
CRACK varies in
purity and often varies from a pale yellow to deep amber rock
PRESENTATION |
It is normally sold in a small plastic bag,
but many users freebase their own crack from cocaine powder
EFFECT |
Crack has a more intense and immediate effect
than cocaine because it is more pure
The rock is placed in a pipe with a mesh over
the opening. The rock is heated and the resulting vapours
are inhaled
